Mechanical Spider

The mechanical spider was the first mechanical sculpture Lyle made. All the materials came from the squatted Council garage in Hackney where he lived with other artists in the early ‘90s. It was made in a very short amount of time in order to be ready for an event at the Rocket club. Realized in less than a week, some of those days not sleeping at all, utilizing the entrance barrier motor and reduction, an old lawn mower that was in the squat and the old leaf springs from my Land Rover. The head is two stainless steel urinals from the inside the office building. Made in 1992 to work for one weekend and is still going 30 years later.
